Meet The Hosts
Jackie Martinez is an illustrator born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Her first love of horror came from watching Chucky at the age of three and from there the rest is history. The horror genre has always been a family in for her, which sparked the admiration for it; from the Jasons to the Freddy’s, she’s seen them all. The good, the bad and the down right weird. Loving metal, punk and alternative rock music adds to the fuel of the genre.
Horror movie soundtracks is what also makes her love it. But more so, the aesthetics and visuals of horror movies; practical effects, suspense, make up effects and the story is why she loves this genre so much.
Having so many favorite films that fueled this love/obsession, her favorite horror villain would have to be Chucky. Reason for that is because as a child, although he scared her, but still slept with a Chucky doll as a child because she felt he would protect her from Freddy. Also, Child’s Play trilogy are the movies she would watch over and over and never get tired of them.
Kendell Burton is a graphic designer born and raised in New York City. Kendell fell in love with horror at a very young age. Family nights in the Burton household was Kendell’s introduction to Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, and Chucky. Once, he got past the initial fright, Kendell saw the excitement that dwelled in the often rejected genre that is horror.
He saw similarities in horror that he enjoyed in hip hop. In the hip hop world, you have the diversity and marriage of all genres from rock, pop, jazz, and funk. The horror world is the same, you get thrillers, dramas, comedy, action, and so much more from the genre.
The very first horror film that Kendell remembers watching is the 1989 film, “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” His favorite horror villain is Jigsaw from the “Saw” franchise. The combination of wit, strategy, and intense planning is what makes him stand out to Kendell. The films are more brutal than Kendell’s usual taste but the plot is so good.
